Last
Mountain House Provincial Historic Park
Last
Mountain House Provincial Historic Park is built on
the site of a fur -trading post constructed in 1869.
The post burned down in the early 1870s, and remained
untouched for almost 100 years. The Regina Archaeological
Society spent 5 summers at the site collecting artifacts
and information about the post.
Now,
several buildings on the site re-create and interpret
life on the post: the Men's House, the Master's House,
the Barn Warehouse (program centre), the Trade Store,
the Ice House. One of the highlights at the post is
a copy of a journal kept by the Master of the post,
Isaac Cowie.
The
park is open July 1st to Labour Day, Thursday through
Sunday.

Trans Canada Trail through River Park in Lumsden |
The Lumsden/Deer Valley section of the Trans Canada Trail had extensive upgrades in 2010. In total, approximately 16 km of trail stretches from Lumsden River Park to Deer Valley. There are 5 information kiosks on the trail, each providing an overview of the Lumsden to Deer Valley section including a detailed topographical map of the area where the kiosk is situated. Walking, biking and hiking are suitable activities on the trail and canoeing/kayaking is a popular pursuit in the Qu’Appelle River and Wascana Creek. During the winter, walking within the town limits and Nordic skiing adjacent to the trail is possible; however, snowshoeing is the only suggested activity in the valley sections.
The Town of Lumsden would like to extend a big thank you to the Trans Canada Trail Committee for volunteering their time and making this project a success!
