Council adopted the 2009 budget and set the mill rate of 8.8437 mills, which represents revenue
neutral mill rate and reflects a decrease of 1.7335 mills from last year. Below a table shows the
municipal tax levy for the Town of Lumsden:

As a result of changes to the provincial budget, Saskatchewan property owners will pay
significantly less education property tax. The provincial government will set province wide tax
rates for each of the three major property classes (residential, commercial and agricultural).

taxes, please contact either a member of the Board of
Education or a Local Trustee.
Assessment Values are based on 2006 market values and the taxable assessment is 70% of
that value for Residential, 55% for Agricultural, 45% for Non-Arable (grazing) and 100% for
Commercially assessed properties. Town Council sets the Municipal Mill Rate (8.8437 in 2009)
and the Province of Saskatchewan has set the education property tax mill rates as follows:
• for all agricultural property, 7.08 mills
• for all residential property, 10.08 mills
• for all commercial /industrial property
o on the first $499,999 taxable assessment, 12.25 mills,
o on next $5,500,000 taxable assessment, 15.75 mills, and
o on any any taxable assessment over $5,999,999, 18.55 mills
Taxes levied for any year are deemed to be due on and from January 1st of that year. Where
taxes and penalties remain unpaid after December 31st in the year in which they are levied, a
penalty of 10.0% shall be added. Discounts are given for current taxes paid as per the following
schedule:
If paid on or before June 30th - 5% Discount
If paid on or before July 31st - 4% Discount
If paid on or before August 31st - 3% Discount
If paid on or before Sept. 30th - 2% Discount
